Hi Game Plan Parents,
College visits are an exciting and crucial part of your student-athlete’s journey to the next level. These trips offer a unique opportunity to get a feel for the campus, meet coaches, and envision life as a college student. However, preparation is key to making the most of these visits.
Here are some tips to ensure you and your athlete are ready:
Do Your Homework
Research the school ahead of time. Look into their athletic program, academic offerings, and campus culture. Have a list of questions ready, such as the coach’s expectations, training schedules, and academic support for athletes.
Schedule Wisely
Coordinate visits to avoid conflicts with your athlete’s practices or games. Many schools have special days for prospective athletes, which can provide a more tailored experience.
Make It a Team Effort
Discuss the visit with your athlete beforehand. Let them take the lead in asking questions and engaging with coaches and current players. This is their chance to shine and show their interest in the program.
Look Beyond Sports
Remember that your athlete is a student first. Take time to explore dorms, classrooms, and dining halls. Ask about graduation rates and post-college opportunities for athletes.
Stay Observant
Pay attention to the team dynamics during practice or a game. Do the athletes seem happy and supported? Is there a sense of camaraderie?
